A curious phenomenon has emerged in modern human society: individuals acting as though they are running their own sovereign governments, attempting to wield authority over the lives, choices, and actions of Others.

From the mundane to the mysterious, many have adopted a mindset where they believe their perspective is not only superior but should be imposed on the world around them. This behaviour, rooted in the ego’s desire for control, reflects a deeper spiritual disconnection, a misunderstanding of the interconnectedness and the divine flow of life. From an advanced spiritual perspective, this tendency to act as judge, jury, and ruler reveals a misalignment with the universal Sacred Principles of Humility, Compassion and Unity.

At the heart of this behaviour lies the Mind of the Ego, the part of the Self that seeks to define and defend its identity through control and judgment. The Ego perceives the world as a stage for its own narrative, where it is the ultimate authority. Consider the individual who, after their involvement in a car accident, demands that the full weight of the law be brought down upon the other party. They declare guilt on the other party, demand reparations, and insist that their needs be met without question. While seeking justice is valid, when the Ego seeks a position as Self-Appointed Sovereign and assumes the role of absolute arbiter, leaving no room for forgiveness, understanding, or the possibility that the other party is also navigating their own human journey which led to their paths crossing in an unfortunate manner.

Similarly, we see this in the person who watches a news media report about a distant event and immediately demands action in the comments, as though their perspective on a complex issue is the only one that matters. Or the individual who inserts their rules onto a stranger in public regarding a social issue, asserting what should be done, as if their opinion holds a singular universal truth. Even in the seemingly trivial act of rejecting a restaurant meal that doesn’t meet exact specifications, there is often an underlying assumption that the world must bend to their Will.

These behaviours reflect a belief that one’s personal preferences, opinions, or experiences should dictate the actions and beliefs of Others. It is as though each individual walks through life carrying a sceptre of self-appointed authority, labelling dissenters as ignorant, uninformed, or uneducated. This is not merely a societal trend but a spiritual challenge, one that provides an invitation to examine the deeper motivations behind the need to control one’s own and Other’s lives.

From a spiritual vantage point, this impulse to impose Will upon Others, stems from a lack of trust in the Divine Order of the Universe. Believing that we must govern Others’ actions, we disconnect from the understanding that life is a co-creative dance, guided by a higher cosmic intelligence that transcends individual Egos. Many ancient writings teach that true wisdom lies in performing one’s daily duties without attachment to outcomes, trusting in the divine flow. Yet, when individuals act as self-appointed governments, they stubbornly cling to personalised outcomes, believing their vision of “correctness” must prevail.

This behaviour also reveals a misunderstanding of interconnectedness. No person is an island, and no individual has the right, or the capacity, to rule the entire world from their own self-appointed throne . As the poet John Donne eloquently stated in AD1624, “No man is an island entire of itself; every man is a piece of the continent, a part of the main.”

This truth reminds us that our existence is interwoven with Others, and our role is not to dominate but to harmonize. When we impose our Will, we disrupt this harmony, creating discordance where unity could instead, flourish.

In contrast to an Ego-driven personal sovereignty that seeks to impose a singular will, Divine Sovereignty arises from an advanced spiritual awareness that embraces the multiplicity of human experience. An individual who has cultivated this higher consciousness transcends the narrow, secular lens of personal preference and instead holds a world view rooted in unity and understanding. They recognize the validity of diverse perspectives across cultures, religions, and life experiences, seeing them as expressions of the same divine essence, whether past, present or future.

Rather than demanding that Others conform to their beliefs, they see, listen and feel deeply, honouring the unique paths of Others while trusting in the universal intelligence that connects every Souls’ stories together. Divine Sovereignty does not focus on personal authority imposing control but seeks co-creation, where the individual aligns with the cosmic flow, acting as a vessel for love, wisdom, and compassion, reaching for harmony to allow Other’s to follow their own paths, rather than create division in the collective human journey.

When individuals act as though they are their own governments, as seen in today’s ‘cultural-climate-changes’, society becomes a battleground of competing Egos, each vying for dominance regardless of right or wrong, black or white, light or dark. Yet, from a spiritual perspective, this is an opportunity for collective awakening from duality to polarity, from individuality to unity.

Every instance of judgment or control is a mirror reflecting our own inner work. By choosing to respond with love, understanding, and surrender, we contribute to a world where harmony prevails over discord.

As we navigate this current era of hyper-individualism, remember the timeless wisdom: “No person is an island that raises them above Others to rule the world.” We are not isolated rulers but interconnected souls, each playing a unique role in the divine symphony. By releasing the need to impose Will and embracing Divine Sovereignty, each may step into a higher state of consciousness, one that honours the sacredness of All Beings and trusts in the greater plan unfolding before us – through Unity to Eternity.
