A magnificent stag had become blinded in one eye during a head to head battle with another deer.
In an effort to graze safely, he picked a spot near the riverbank from which he could use his good side towards the land to watch for the approach of a hunter or the Lion. He was aware that only an old fisherman used the river so he saw no reason to watch out for danger on his blind side.

After a few days, the fisherman had noticed the Stag near to the riverbank on his travels up and down the river, paying him no attention. So on this day, he had brought along his large harpoon left over from his sea fishing days, thinking how lucky he would be to have a nice change to having deer meat instead of his usual fishy meals.

He was able to row closely up to stag without raising suspicion as the stag was busy watching the land with it’s good vision. Taking careful aim, he successfully brought down the stag, mortally wounding it.

The stag lamented his decision to place his faith solely on what he could see and not on what he knew could lead to potential danger. For all his confidence in believing he was safe had become the source of his own undoing.

And the Moral of this story is:
Trouble always comes from the direction you least expect it.
